The Joke’s on You — Golden Age of Thunder

Where Dutch hardcore meets the Old Masters.

Inspired by the iconic Thunderdome XIII — The Joke’s on You CD cover, this original artwork transforms a legendary image from Dutch hardcore history into a distinctive interpretation inspired by the Old Dutch Masters.

The familiar green and red, the theatrical white ruff and the unmistakable gabber attitude return in a completely different visual world. Dramatic chiaroscuro, rich colours and expressive oil-painted textures give the figure a timeless, almost theatrical presence.

Rather than simply reproducing the original cover, The Joke’s on You reimagines its visual identity through a personal artistic vision, bringing together the rebellious spirit of hardcore culture and the depth of classical painting.

Part of Golden Age of Thunder, the art series by Hartcore to da bone, this painting celebrates the imagery, identity and nostalgia of the Dutch gabber scene while exploring what happens when underground culture meets the traditions of fine art.

Created for hardcore devotees, Thunderdome nostalgics and art lovers who appreciate something beyond the ordinary.

The Joke’s on You. The legacy lives on.
